The Giants took a step to increase their pass rush on Wednesday, signing Ifedi Odenangbo to a $ 2.5 million one-year deal.
Odenagbo, 26, is a 6-foot-3, 258-pound defensive end, with 10.5 career sacks over the past two seasons. He had seven sacks as a situational pass-ranger for the Vikings in 2019. His first career sack came in Week 5 that season against Daniel Jones and the Giants at MetLife Stadium.
Given a starting job in 2020, he had made just 3.5 sacks in 15 starts – though he hit a career-high 15 quarters. He was born in BeyoncĂ©, NJ, attended high school in Ohio and played college ball at Northwestern.
The Vikings decided not to tender Odingbo to the restricted free agent. She was a 2017 seventh-round draft pick of Minnesota. He had a brief stay with the Browns and Cardinals before returning to the Vikings.
The sign fits that the Giants are likely to continue in free agency – young, healthy players with whom they believe can fit well into their scheme.
