The Giants took a step to increase their pass rush on Wednesday, signing Ifedi Odenangbo to a $ 2.5 million one-year deal.
Odenagbo, 26, is a 6-foot-3, 258-pound defensive end, with 10.5 career sacks over the past two seasons. He had seven sacks as a situational pass-ranger for the Vikings in 2019. His first career sack came in Week 5 that season against Daniel Jones and the Giants at MetLife Stadium.
Given a starting job in 2020, he had made just 3.5 sacks in 15 starts – though he hit a career-high 15 quarters. He was born in Beyoncé, NJ, attended high school in Ohio and played college ball at Northwestern.
The Vikings decided not to tender Odingbo to the restricted free agent. She was a 2017 seventh-round draft pick of Minnesota. He had a brief stay with the Browns and Cardinals before returning to the Vikings.
The sign fits that the Giants are likely to continue in free agency – young, healthy players with whom they believe can fit well into their scheme.
