Hornets likely to go out for injury season at Crusher

Lamello Ball’s sensational rookie season may be over.

The Hornets announced their point guard – a frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year – underwent an MRI that revealed he fractured his right wrist and would be out indefinitely. He has finished for the season, according to ESPN.

Any long-term absence is a devastating blow for the Hornets, who are clinging to the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs behind a combination of Ball’s first-year running back and Gordon Hayward’s free-agent. The ball was lying on his wrist as he fell to the floor against the Clippers on Saturday, and was seen wrapped on his wrist and drawing special attention from the trainers on the bench.

Entering the NBA with a ridiculous amount of hype as the No. 3 overall pick in the draft – and part of the Ball family promoted by brother Lonzo and father LaVar – LaMello became an instant star for his solid play and charming style. He averaged 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists in more than 41 games for the Hornets (20-21).

Ball is the only player in the last 60 years to lead in total points, rebellion, assists and steals at the All-Star break.
