The heartbreaking video shows an Indian man being taken to a burial place to bury his wife’s body when he died of COVID-19 – when the country is suffering severe devastation.
The man, identified only as Swami, took his dead wife Nagalakshmi, who stopped on Monday, about two miles from the burial ground in the town of Kamareddy in Telangana, asking for help. The New Indian Express reported.
But despite his pleas, no one raises his hand in fear of dealing with the disease, which according to the outlet is causing harm to the country.
The driver was seen ignoring the struggling man as his wife’s body lay on the road.
The couple used to live near a railway station, where they used to beg before Nagalakshmi became ill. The railway police gave money to Swami to perform the last rites.
In a separate incident, a 70-year-old man took the corpse of his wife, who had died of the disease, on his bicycle to Ambarpur village for cremation, Indian Express told
.
Police said he died in the district hospital on Monday and his body was sent to his village in an ambulance.
“But the villagers, including the elderly, refused to help them in performing the last rites, as they may also contract the virus,” police officer Madihu Munna Lal Dhussia told the Press Trust of India.
“After no one came to help, the old man decided to put his wife’s body on his wheel and go for her cremation. However, it was not possible for him to move the body on a cycle and he continued to lose his balance, ”he said.
When the police came to know about his plight, they helped take the body to Ramghat, where the cremation was conducted.
