Baltic – The Oakland Athletics did not falter with a six-game losing streak to open the season.
They were simply going on “Ride the Wave”, a mantra the team embraced to remove adversity.
Jade Lowery hit a three-run homer and the Athletics won their 13th straight game, taking a big lead and beating the Baltimore Orioles 7–2 with a rain on Saturday night.
“You go out there and grind on it,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said of the challenging conditions. “Play until someone says it, it’s worth playing.”
It is the third longest winning streak in Oakland history. In 1988 the A won 14 straight and in 2002 set an erstwhile American League record with 20 consecutive wins.
Cleveland broke that mark with 22 straight wins in 2017 – Oakland’s string is the largest by volume as the Indians run.
Athletics outscored opponents 83–36 during their winning streak.
Matt Olson and Mark Canha had nieces for Oakland with two hits and two RBIs, winning nine of them for 2019 against the Orioles dating.
“We knew as a team, especially after the first week, we were better than that,” said shortstop Elvis Andrus. He said, “There was a big push between the coaches and the manager, in which we were not afraid. That is what happened. Everyone started feeling better, everyone started taking a little rest. The pitches have been amazing. I think They are a big reason why we started winning. It’s a lot of fun. We will go day by day and see how long we can pull off this streak. “
Chris Basit (2-2) faced a steady rain at Camden Yards, with two hits and eight hits over six innings. He won eight, and improved to 3–0 in four career starts against Baltimore.
“The hitters take a lot of pressure off the starters because of the runs we are making,” Basit said. “I think it’s a perfect mix of fathers trusting pitchers and pitchers who rely on pitchers.”
Olson took a 1–0 lead in the single in the first goal, with Kanha scoring the goal, which closed with a double against Wade Leblanc (0–1).
LeBlanc made his first start of the season after five relief appearances.
“Just not being able to get the ball towards my glove,” LeBlanc said. “It’s the kind of pitch that opens up everything for me, and unfortunately tonight it wasn’t too much from the get-go.”
Oakland led Caine to a two-run lead 4–0 and in the second, Olson scored a double that ended the night of LeBlanc. The Orioles scored their first run on a double by Chance Cisco who deflected to first base and outfield.
Laurie responded with his homer in the third to the scoreboard taking Tyler Wells, Rule 5.
“Zaid, the story just keeps growing with him,” Melvin said.
Trey Mencini doubled RBI in the fifth which cut the margin to 7-2.
The Orioles have scored two runs or less in their last six defeats.
