Leafs Joe Jay Thornton congratulates Patrick Marleau on NHL records

Patrick Marlu made NHL history on Monday when he skated in his 1,768th game, making Gordy Howe the NHL’s all-time game leader.

Of his 1,768 NHL games, Marley played 1,596 with the Sharks, eight with the Penguins, and 164 matches with the Maple Leafs. And, as anyone around the game knows, he left young stars Austin Matthews and Mitch Marner under his wing in Toronto. Appreciation and congratulatory messages for the 41-year-old were posted on social media, with the pair also sending their love to Marlu.

The Sharks posted video from the pair – who came 12 years (and 75 days their senior), with a surprise cameo from Marlue’s former team at Thornton.

“Patty, just want to congratulate you on the amazing milestones and achievements,” Matthew says to start the video. “I know myself and Michie, it is a great honor and privilege to get to know you and to play with you for two years and build a wonderful friendship.”

“We would like to thank us for the lending.” He has been with us continuously all the time, ”says Maerner, a naked Thornton strolling through the doorway. (Don’t worry, things are foggy).

“Another father figure,” Marner said. “You want to congratulate on this achievement and have fun with your family.”

It is difficult to tell if anyone has a straight face as they are all wearing masks as per NHL protocol, but here is the video:
