Matt Harvey takes standings ovation from Mets fans at Citi Field

As he took the mound at Citi Field for the first time in 1,105 days – and never wore the Mets’ uniform for the first time – Matt Harvey was welcomed with a standing ovation.

The right-hander had a unique end with the club in 2018, but fans stood up and cheered for the Orioles’ right-hander before he began warming up for the first inning.

Harvey saluted the crowd, stepped to the back of the mound and tore his hat off. Harvey received another strong ovation, as he was playing on the PA system with his old warmup song, U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, moved to the plate for his first at-bat during the second inning.

The man, formerly known as the Dark Knight, was last seen at City Field in a relief appearance against the Braves on May 3, 2018. The next day, he was nominated for the assignment.
