Matton Brandon Nimmo Working Through Sharp Hip Pain

Brandon Nimmo is still not sure what caused his recent right hip stiffness, but a cortisone shot later he returned to the Mets’ lineup Wednesday.

Hip first started troubling Nimmo when he was playing in Colorado on April 18 and missed a road start against the Cubs last week. After receiving an MRI exam, Nimmo decided to take the shot on Monday, which barred him from starting against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Nimmo said that the pain was so severe at one point last week that he had difficulty lying in bed. The mechanism of injury remains a mystery.

He said, “I only remember coming from left field [in Colorado] And feeling a sharp pain in my right hip and thinking it was part of baseball, “Nimmo told the Mets before going down 0-for-3 to the Red Sox in a 1–0 loss. “I figured it would get better from the off day and it didn’t, and I went the next day and we tried to do whatever was possible with it. We tried to play through it and it got worse after that. Gaya … and so we are trying to work on it. ”

Nimmo said he is not concerned about a long-term impact as he had similar discomfort in his left hip in 2018 and the case resolved itself after receiving a cortisone shot and rehab.

“Hopefully this is just something that got it in the wrong position, whatever it may be, and we can deal with it just once,” Nimmo said. “We’re hoping it’s just like 2018, where it stays closed for a couple of weeks and we don’t like it from the start.”

Jacob Dagrom’s nine strikes gave him 59 of the first five of the season. Through five appearances to start a season, Nolan most matched Ryan’s record since 1893. Degrom’s 0.51 ERA is the lowest through five in the history of the Mets.

One of the best signs of Jeurys Familia’s strong start to the season has emerged from the bullpen that finished 15th in the major leagues with a 4.06 ERA. The veteran Familia has a 1.59 ERA in six appearances, including a 4 ₃ / ning innings to draw a scoring streak until April 10.

“He’s throwing more strikes,” manager Luis Rojas said. “This is a big deal for him. If he throws the ball over the plate, he is going to have a really good year. The stuff is electric and his brightness gets better and his sliders get better, but the key for him is to throw strikes and induce contact.

“I have a good feeling about the family this year. He has worked really hard, he is in a real good physical condition at the moment. “

The Mets claimed catcher Davey Grullan to be exempt from the Rays and took him to an alternate venue. Gralon, 25, hit .283 with 21 homers and 77 RBIs in 108 games for Triple-A Leh Valley in 2019.

DeGrom’s five-match hitting streak, which ended with a 0–2-night run, was the longest by a Mets pitcher since Mike Hampton in 2000.

Jerry Cosman’s six-game hitting streak set a franchise record for the pitcher in 1974–75.
