Missouri zoo residents, reptiles destroyed by fire

A fire broke out through the reptile house of a zoo in Missouri, killing all 11 residents of the residence.

The fire was reported around 4:30 am Friday at the Criter Lane Petting Zoo in Vallnes Mines. According to a facebook post From the zoo.

Alan Stagel, assistant chief of Big River’s fire department, said the structure was destroyed at the time of the fire.

Steagall said the surrounding birdhouses were damaged by smoke and water, but all birds survived without injury.

The zoo opened for the Saturday season.

“All of us here are devastated by the loss of animals. In the Facebook post, the zoo said, “We have a long day of cleanliness, along with preparations for tomorrow’s opening.”

“Thanks to the fire departments and everyone helped to extinguish the fire this morning. Keep us in your prayers today.”

Critter Lane Petting Zoo is seeking donations to rebuild.

The reason for the fire is not clear.
