Mayor Bill de Blasio said that all homebound New Yorkers in Five Boroughs can now sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Those New Yorkers who cannot leave their home and need a vaccine – whether they are seniors, or they are disabled, for whatever reason – we will reach them,” De Blasio said during the City Hall press briefing said.
“Our goal is to get everyone to the homebound by the end of April.”
The door-to-door effort is using the newly approved single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The city took the initiative earlier this month with homebound seniors at Co-Op City in the Bronx, then expanded to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn and Far Rockaway in Queens.
Those who are homebound can sign up for the trip at 877-VAX-4-NYC or by traveling vax4nyc.nyc.gov.
De Blasio said, “Whoever needs it, we want to be there.”
Big Apple has already administered more than 2.8 million vaccine doses as of Monday, as announced by Hizzoner.
“It’s more than Chicago’s total population – an extraordinary effort,” De Blasio said.
Meanwhile, state officials said Monday that they have now stopped working at Johnson & Johnson’s shots at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx for overnight and at the Javitz Center in Manhattan.
“The Javits’ 24/7 pilot program with Yockey Stadium and the State Fair site in Syracuse ended last week, and we continue to expand capacity on site for the expected increase in dose,” said Jill Montague, a Jill Montague A spokesman for the state’s health department said in a statement.
“More than 180,000 shots have been administered in Javit, and we will continue to expand operations as the vaccine supplies permit.”
