On the Fullcourt Flatbush Podcast: The Nets-Knicks Rivalry

Fullcourt on Flatbush Nets Podcast
NY Post: Charles Weinberg

The dynamic between Knicks and Nets fans has been fascinating this year. The Nets are the better team. The Knicks are better than they have been in eight years. You could argue that the Nets are the biggest story in the NBA, but don’t know that many Nax fans, who would still say the Nets are not relevant in NY. This is an endless argument that usually ends with a fight between the two sides.

This is a debate in which we had to discuss a new episode of the “Fulcourt on Flatbush” podcast with Robin Lundberg and Nets Carey Kettles. Chris Children, who plays for both teams, joined the podcast, in the spirit of the Nets-Knicks rivalry.

Fullcourt on the Flatbush Podcast with Robin and Carey:

  • NETS BEAT KNICKS: Robin says it felt like a championship game for Knicks fans. His fans need to stop talking about the Nets. Julius Randall certainly traveled and had no right to be upset. This was the right call. Robin liked stirring the pot on Twitter when it came to the Nets-Knicks.
  • Title: The Nets look like the best team in the NBA. They are improving on the defensive end. James Harden is playing good defense here. He does not necessarily need Andre Drummond, but if he is in a position to buy, it might make sense.
  • POSTSEASON: Being healthy and getting everyone on the court together for the playoffs is the only concern. Carey says we will be there, so I think he is making sure Fulcourt on the Flatbush crew arrives at the Barclays Center off-time.

Carey’s corner: Robin and I asked Kerry about his NBA career. We ask Carey about how Kenen Martin would be withdrawn for some time, whether he or any of his teammates ever feuded with any other team, how his game would translate to today’s NBA and if he was now in public. Gets out of form.

Chris Children Interview:
Former Nets guard (1994–96, 2002–03)

  • NY HOOPS ENERGY: Glad both teams are on the map and playing well. it’s been a while.
  • Blockster Net: Never thought that playing in NET NY would end. sky is the limit. This is an amazing team.
  • Today’s game: Still confident the defense would win the game come playoff time.
  • KYRIE: Magician with the ball. A mix of Kenny Anderson, Rod Strickland and Raffer Alston. One of the best guards to play the game.
  • Champion or bust: This is the situation for the Nets. Can’t bring in these stars and won’t win a title anymore.
  • Net to know: Transitions from NJ and losing teams from NY and winning teams. Always worked hard in practice. Had to earn his place.
  • Battle of Cobi’s Battle: There is never an interview in which he is not asked. The clash was a sign of respect.
  • 2002-03 NETS: Played 12 games with Carey. That team was incredible. I wish he could stay healthy and support Jason Kidd and play in a playoff game. Everyone has a high intelligence on that team.
  • Point guard: Point guard play then vs now and as scorer vs distributor. Today some of these people will lose gold by covering them.
