Pair of infants found dead in NYC, mother in custody

According to police and sources, a couple of six weeks of age were found dead Thursday afternoon inside a Queens NYCHA apartment – and their young mother was taken into custody.

The infants – a boy and a girl – were found in an apartment at Woodside House on 51st Street at 32nd Avenue in Woodside at about 3:10 p.m., police said.

Police said that police were called there after a grueling search.

Police sources said the boy was first found inside a bedroom cradle, stabbed with a knife.

The police questioned the then 23-year-old mother living in the house about her second child.

“He pointed to the sink,” NYPD Housing chief David Barre said at a press conference Thursday night.

Officials and sources said that following the mother’s instructions, the police found the girl wrapped in a pink blanket under the kitchen sink.

Police said that the two children were declared dead at the scene by EMS.

The city medical examiner’s office will determine their causes of death.

According to police, a knife was recovered in the apartment.

Sources said the mother, whose name had not been released, was arrested and taken to the 114th Precant for questioning.

Barre said that upon receiving summons to other people, he does not appear for any previous arrests.

Neighbors were stunned after receiving information about the deadly attack.

“I’m so sad. I’m shaken up. I’m heartbroken,” said Genelis Perez, 31, tearing up.

“It is disbelief that we are all feeling here. We just can’t believe it happened close to home, “he said.

65-year-old Ken Dostis said: “I’m sick. I’m disappointed … it’s just horrifying. “
