Rangers David Quinn Sticking With Alexander Georgiev

This is not about Igor Shesterkin. It is about Alexander Georgiev and Rangers coach David Quinn’s desire to ride the hot hand.

Georgiev has helped the Rangers earn at least one point in each of their last four appearances (they are 2–0–2 in those contests) and one with a 6–2 win over the Bruins at the Garden on Friday night Are performing strong. So he will come to the net again in a rematch with Boston on Sunday.

“It’s always a competition. The plan is to play the guy who gives you the best chance to win, ”Quinn said on Saturday on Zoom. “Georgiev played well. I think he got six of his last eight points and it was a good night [Friday] Night, so give him a chance [on Sunday]”

Shesterkin has started 11 of the Rangers’ 18 games, and has better overall numbers than Georgiev – a lower goal-average (2.40 compared to 2.81) and a higher save percentage (91.9 to 90.1) – but Quinn likes that. Is what he has seen recently. Georgian

“I have not played twice in a row,” the coach said. He said, “I wanted to do what I gave him the opportunity to do [Friday] night.”

According to Quinn, the position of Artemi Panarin and Capo Kako is unchanged.

Kako, on the team’s COVID-19 protocol list, has missed the last three matches, while Panarin has been ruled out for the last two as he takes a leave of absence following an allegation from his former KHL coach Andre Nazarov, that the 2011 Panarin. Got into an altercation with an 18-year-old woman. Panarin has denied the allegations and there is no evidence or police record to support Nazarov’s claims.

Because there was practice on Saturday, Quinn said it was unlikely that Phillip Chitil (hand) would play Sunday. The 21-year-old center returned to practice on Thursday after being out from January 24.

The Rangers’ first goal on Friday is attributed to Phil de Giusep from Julian Gauthier. This marked Di Giuseppe’s first goal of the season. Thus Gauthier rests on a goal.
