Alexis Lafreniere recorded the first double-digit game of his NHL career in the Rangers’ 6–1 win over the Devils at Prudential Center on Thursday night.
With one goal and one assist in the Ranger’s first win over their cross-Hudson rivals this season, Lafreniere upped the ante in four straight games. In that period, he has registered two goals and three assists. Lafreniere has also recorded a point in five of the last six matches to bring his season mark to seven.
“There is definitely more confidence with Puck, doing the things he is able to do at this level and it is good to see him get rewarded,” head coach David Quinn said of Lafreniere . “I know it feels good for him. I joked with him about the goal like he did on the knee the other night. [Thursday night] There was a completely different goal.
“I don’t take pictures after a game and they certainly don’t tell a story. When you look at the status sheet, it’s very happy for him to be rewarded for the kind of plays that he makes in making Is enabled. “
At 3:57 of the third period, Lafreniere sent a crisp feed to Pavel Buchanavich, who pushed it past the Devils’ netminder McKenzie Blackwood to give the Rangers a 4–1 lead. Lefrenier later wrapped up the night scoring with a rocket shot from the left faceoff circle.
“He is another guy who was consistently responsible defensively during the season and wanted to play properly,” Chris Kreider said of Lafreniere. “I was very impressed with the small things I was doing in the D zone. He knew that the crime was there and that the crime was going to come along and that he was just a very good player.
“He really cares about winning at the end of the day, it’s contagious for our group. For young people to see that in the first overall pick. He’s feeling it right now.”
The Rangers have won two games in a row for the third time this season. Additionally, he has won five of his last seven.
The Rangers (9-9-3) tied their season with six goals in the win. He also set up a single-period season with four goals in the third.
Including the team’s goals for a shootout win, the BlueStates have recorded at least three goals in six of their last seven matches and in 13 matches this season.
