Ellen Poulter gives Rory McElroy his worst loss in 10 years in Dell Technologies’ match play.
Poulter won the opening match at Austin Country Club, 6 and 5. The last time McElroy started the course was when Ben Crane beat him 8 and 7 in the second round in 2011, when the event was in Arizona.
McIlroy’s round took a disgraceful turn when his par-5th hole missed the opening and settled into the neighbor’s swimming pool.
Poulster was fighting a 1-up lead going into the ninth hole at Austin Country Club when he hit a 7-iron to 8 feet for Birdie. McIlroy threw the next hole with a poor pitch, and Poulter dived with a tee shot from 15-feet for Birdie on the 11th and 4-feet to 8 feet for the Eagles on the 12th.
The match ended in 13th place when McElroy overweight in the green and then went back into the water in the green.
McIlroy began working with the famous English coach Pete Cowen, although he still did not reveal to what degree. And Wednesday was not a day of such revelations. He refused to talk to the media.
