An alarming incident reportedly took place today in China, where a woman’s iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while she was sleeping. The explosion reportedly took place at around 6:30 AM when the phone was charging nearby. According to a report of 91mobiles, the woman reportedly suffered severe burns from the blast. Appleās customer service team has expressed concern and is now investigating the cause of the explosion. Despite the device being out of warranty, the company has insisted on retrieving the phone to understand what caused the malfunction. Apple has reportedly mentioned that it is currently uncertain whether the battery in the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the original one or if it has been replaced during any previous repairs, which could have affected its quality.Ā iOS New Feature Update: Apple Will Let You Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus in iOS 18.2 Beta.

A picture is worth a thousand words ā as long as it doesnāt get deleted.
Apple announced it will permanently do away with the My Photo Stream album next month. The feature automatically stores pictures taken in the last 30 days.
Due to the impending shutdown, My Photo Stream stopped uploading snaps on June 26 ā and everything in the album will be deleted when the service ceases July 26.Ā
However, any pics that were uploaded to My Photo Stream before June 26 will remain in iCloud for 30 daysĀ from the date of uploadĀ and will be available on devices where My Photo Stream is enabled.
To ensure you do not lose any pictures, go into the My Photo Stream album in your camera roll and save your pictures to your device or to iCloud.
āThe photos in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of your devices, so as long as you have the device with your originals, you wonāt lose any photos as part of this process,ā Apple notes on its support page.
If a photo you want isnāt already in your library on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, make sure you save it to your library on that device.Ā
If you already use iCloud, you do not need to do anything else.
Saying bye bye to My Photo Stream means that iCloud is Appleās ābest optionā for keeping all your photos and videos across all devices safe and in one place.
But there are still outside options, as one money expert on TikTok recently shared with her viewers.
She advises Apple users to never pay for additional iCloud storage once they hit their allotted free 5 gigabytes.
iCloud costsĀ $0.99 for 50 GB of storage, $2.99 for 200 GB, and $9.99 for 2 terabytes.
Instead, the expert recommends users back their photos up on the Amazon Photos app or through their Google accounts.
Appleās market value crossed the $3 trillion mark in early Friday trading as investors look ahead to the highly-scrutinized releases like the iPhone 15 and the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset.
The California-based tech giantās stock hovered at $191.52 per share after the opening bell Friday after closing at a record high in each of its previous two trading sessions. Appleās stock surge this year has increased its market cap by roughly $1 trillion.
Apple previously became the first company in history to hit the $3 trillion mark in intraday trading on Jan. 3, 2022. But the shares ended up closing below the threshold and never crossed it again as rate hikes from the Federal Reserve began to slam tech stocks.
In order to maintain a $3 trillion valuation on Friday, Appleās stock would need to close above $190.74 per share.
Apple shares have swelled more than 51% so far this year, leading a broader recovery among battered tech stocks as investors shake off concerns about the Fed and the economic outlook.
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives, a noted Apple bull, has set a $220 price target for shares and argued in a note this week that aĀ āfair valuation could be in the $3.5 trillion range with a bull case $4 trillion valuationā by fiscal 2025.
āThe Apple bears and skeptics continue to scratch their heads as many have called for Appleās ābroken growth storyā this year in a tougher backdrop, to which we firmly believe the exact opposite has happened with Cupertino heading into a massive renaissance of growth over the next 12 to 18 months,ā Ives said in a note to clients.
Stock growth has continued unabated even after Appleās CFO Luca Maestri warned in May that the company expected its revenue to sink by 3% this quarter. The iPhone 15 is slated for release this fall ahead of the crucial holiday season.
Apple faced a lukewarm reception at its unveiling of the Vision Pro headset earlier this month, which marks the first major product launch in Cupertino in more than a decade.
CEO Tim Cook has referred to the headset as a āspatial computerā and an innovation on par with the launch of the first iPhone or Mac computer. Resembling a set of large ski googles, the Vision Pro allows users to interact with apps with their hands and voice rather than a mouse or controller.
Critics have taken aim at the Vision Proās whopping $3,499 price tag ahead of release to the public early next year and its limited battery life, among other points of contention.
Attendees of Appleās Worldwide Developers Conference openly groaned when executives announced the price and release date.
Former Apple executive Tony Fadell skeptically quipped that the company had ājumped the sharkā with the headset.
Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose company is set to release its own updated mixed-reality headset later this year for just $499, slammed Appleās design for making people sit āon a couch by themselfā instead of being active.
So far, Apple has largely avoided implementing the sort of austerity measures seen at rival firms such as Amazon, Google and Meta ā each of which have carried out significant rounds of layoffs and other cost-cutting measures.
Apple faces an additional EU antitrust charge in the coming weeks in an investigation triggered by a complaint from Spotify, a person familiar with the matter said, a sign that EU enforcers are strengthening their case against the US company.
The European Commission last year accused the iPhone maker of distorting competition in the music streaming market via restrictive rules for its App Store that force developers to use its own in-app payment system and prevent them from informing users of other purchasing options.
Such requirements have also come under scrutiny in countries including the United States and Britain.
Extra charges set out in a so-called supplementary statement of objections are usually issued to companies when the EU competition enforcer has gathered new evidence or has modified some elements to boost its case.
The Commission declined to comment. Apple had no immediate comment.
Under new EU tech rules called the Digital Markets Act agreed last month, such practices are illegal. However Apple and other US tech giants targeted by the rules will have a couple of years before the crackdown starts.
āThe DMA is still two years away. The rules will probably apply to Apple at the beginning of 2024. This is why antitrust cases remain important,ā said lawyer Damien Geradin at Geradin Partners, who is advising several app developers in other cases against Apple.
Companies found breaching EU antitrust rules face fines of as much as 10% of their global turnover and orders to ditch anti-competitive practices.
In addition to the music streaming investigation, Appleās practices in e-books and its Apple Pay are also in the EU antitrust crosshairs.
Swedenās Spotify, the largest music subscription service in the world, is one of Europeās big global success stories in consumer technology.
See this white brick? It puts out a measly 30W of power to a single device, yet Apple charges $50 for it. Please do not buy one because we now have firm evidence that Apple is about to replace it with something much, much better ā a 35W charger with two ports, likely powered by gallium nitride (GaN) technology that might also make it smaller.
Thatās the word from 9to5Mac, which got this particular scrap of information from by far the most reliable source of Apple leaks: Appleās own website. Apparently, the company accidentally threw a support document live for an āApple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter,ā and 9to5 managed to snap a screenshot before it was pulled.
This is likely the āabout 30Wā GaN charger that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted about last month, which he said would have āa new form factor designā and arrive in 2022.
You could fast charge an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an Apple Watch at the same time with that level of power, or an M1 MacBook Air and a watch, or an iPad and an Apple Watch, or a pair of iPhones, or an iPad Pro and an iPhone at a slower rate, orā¦ itās USB-C, so there are a lot of possibilities.
It wouldnāt be Appleās first GaN charger ā that would be the 140W power adapter it shipped with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro. But unless Iām mistaken, it would be the first dual-port charger Apple has ever made and certainly the first with USB-C.
In fact, thereās a dual-USB-C-shaped hole seemingly waiting for it in the Apple Store. Apple carries Belkin chargers that have a single USB-C port and a 32W charger with both USB-C and USB-A ports, but not Belkinās dual-USB-C charger ā and thatās Appleās premier accessories partner weāre talking about. You can obviously find quite a few dual-port USB-C chargers outside of the Apple Store, though, including many with higher speeds.
Note that this device would offer 35W total, not 35W per port. 9to5Mac says the support doc states each port can operate in one of the following four modes: either 5VDC/3A, 9VDC/3A, 15VDC/2.33A, or 20VDC/1.75A. That should easily allow two devices to charge at 15W or one at 27W and one at 5W, but weāll have to see which combinations of devices might work.
The support document doesnāt suggest when the charger might arrive but does say that a USB-C cable will not be included.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away but apparently it doesnāt keep away the spies.
Apple customers should be careful what they whisper into the ears of their AirPods. Used AirPods have been found to have a major security flaw, according to a new report via Business Insider.
Some used headphonesĀ allegedly stay connected to the previous ownerāsĀ iCloud accounts, even if a system reset takes place.
David Malka, chief sales officer of goTRG told the outlet that the conflict āis a big concern.ā
āWeāve tested it in the facilities. Weāve been testing it every day,ā he said.Ā āItās like me telling you, āhey, if you sell your car, you have to make sure you unplug this wire, if not somebodyās gonna be able to trace you.ā ā
While the AirPods are being set up, some of the affected areas may display the phrase āAirPod Mismatch,ā instead of āNew Owner Nameās AirPods,ā in Appleās Find My app.Ā
When a new owner attempts to link up their new AirPods from their iPhones, a message reportedly appears and says that the earbuds are connected to a different Apple ID account.
The pop-up then asks if the one of the headphones is āmixed up with someone elseās AirPods.ā
The research found that thousands of AirPods have been returned to stores such as Walmart and then repackaged and resold.
Apparently eight out of 10 AirPods that go through goTRG, are coming up with issues associated with the security leak. goTRG is a software refurbishing company that helps mega retailers with technology returns.
Malka also noted, āIt doesnāt make sense.ā Another problem with the resold AirPods, is the possible data breaches associated with usersā iCloud accounts.
Kyle Wiens, CEO of electronics repair website iFixit, said in the report that this headphone issue is another example of Apple products that arenāt āreturn friendly.ā
āIt shows an underlying strategy at Apple, which is to lock down and control every aspect of the experience, including synchronizing individual parts inside the phone, or an individual earbud to an account,ā Wiens explained.
Patrick Wardle, an independent Mac OS security researcher, explained to Insider āthe issue may actually be something set up by Apple on purpose. Without this hurdle, a set of stolen AirPods could be factory reset to make them immediately usable by the thief, or at least untraceable by the victim.ā
AirPods have been replacing wire-connected earbuds and their sheer presence has become a staple in the modern worldās cultural landscape.
Some women have even referred to themselves as having an āAirPod-shapedā body ā females who have tiny waists and a bigger bust (similar to the shape of the Apple wireless headphones). The phenomena has gained a wide community on TikTok.
Another woman went viral last year in a series of TikTok postsĀ in which she alleged she accidentally mistook herĀ AirPodsĀ for ibuprofen and swallowed it whole. She later pooped it out, however, not before the gadget actually roared a voice memo from inside her tummy.Ā Ā
Apple reportedly will soon provide a new Face ID repair option for iPhone X that doesnāt involve replacing the whole device (via MacRumors). The option comes after Appleās recent shift to soon provide a TrueDepth Camera service option that can fix the face unlock feature of the 2018 iPhone XS and newer models but didnāt previously include the 2017 iPhone X.
Repairing just the Face ID component can be difficult since itās a fairly complex system involving four components: a flood illuminator (a part of the display assembly, more on that later), dot projector, āTrueDepthā front camera, and IR camera. If any of these components malfunction, you could lose the face unlock feature and have to resort to entering a password.
Appleās old method of dealing with broken Face ID would be to swap the whole device with a like-new refurbished replacement. And that might be OK for customers with otherwise undamaged phones, who have an AppleCare warranty, and wouldnāt mind a shiny new-looking iPhone. But most iPhone X users today probably donāt have an active AppleCare warranty since the deviceās 2018 discontinuation, meaning that a full replacement would cost them $549
. Thereās no mention yet of how much the TrueDepth camera replacement would cost.
Whole unit replacements can be wasteful on the supply-chain front, though, and data transfers to a new device are always cumbersome ā especially for those not paying for Appleās iCloud backup subscription. Face ID has also been a burden in the screen replacement market, requiring the transfer of a fragile flood illuminator component and earpiece assembly to the new screen in order to maintain face unlock.
It was also initially difficult to replace the screens of the latest iPhone 13 models without losing Face ID. Since then, Apple had remedied it through a software fix and also announced a conveniently timed self-repair program that will give end users and third-party service providers access to parts and tools to fix screens, batteries, and cameras ā though the TrueDepth Camera component is not yet mentioned in it.
With rain in the forecast for Washington, the Metsā opener could be in the dark for tech-adverse fans.Ā
The Weather Channel forecast for Thursdayās late afternoon first Metsā game in D.C. calls for a 90 percent chance of rain.Ā
If the weather holds up, there will be no problem as fans will get the telecast on SNY with Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling on Thursday.Ā
However, if it is postponed and Opening Day is Friday night, well, that game will mark the debut of Apple TV+, which will likely cause some angst for fans who either donāt have the service or donāt know how to activate it.Ā
Appleās initial offering will be free to anyone with access to the internet.Ā
There is the possibility of a day-night doubleheader being scheduled for Friday, which would allow SNY to have the opener in the afternoon and Apple TV+ to have the second game at night.Ā
Without the delay for the lockout, some teams schedule a day off for the day after their opener to prevent such an issue. The Nationals do not have that luxury.Ā
Regardless if it is the first or second game, Apple TV+ will feature yet to be named announcers, but it will not be Cohen, Hernandez and Darling.Ā
Besides being paid $85 million per year by Apple, MLB feels as if it is important for it to embrace new technology to appeal to fans as the cable bundle diminishes.Ā
As for the forecast, MLB is hoping for the best.Ā
āNo changes to the schedule have been made at this time,ā an MLB spokesman said.
Itās a day of Apple Watch deals. At Walmart and on Amazon, you can get a great deal on the Apple Watch Series 7, Appleās latest smartwatch that has a bigger screen than prior generations, along with fast charging. Each retailer has a limited selection of color options available in both the 41mm and 45mm sizing with GPS onboard. Normally $399, you can snag the blue, green, or red variants (with matching case and band colors) for $329 ā the best price ever.
If you want the 45mm-sized case, the price drop is equally sweet. Instead of paying $429, it costs $359.99 for the green, red, or blue aluminum 45mm watches at Walmart and Amazon (the blue option isnāt as steeply discounted on Amazon, by the way). Read our review of the Series 7.
If you donāt want to spend that much on a smartwatch, thereās good news. The Apple Watch SE, Appleās more budget-friendly smartwatch thatās a much smarter buy than the older Series 3 Watch, is also seeing price drops.
Normally $279 for the 40mm GPS model, multiple color variants that include an aluminum case and a sport band cost $229 at Amazon and Walmart. Just a heads-up, the color selection at Walmart is a little better than Amazonās. This price is $10 shy of its best price ever, which took place during Black Friday 2021. The 44mm size with GPS is $50 off, too, at Walmart and Amazon (again, the color selection is better at Walmart). Instead of costing $409, the price has dropped to $259.
Compared to the Apple Watch Series 3, which it comes closest to in Appleās lineup in terms of price, the SE is faster. It also has more sensors for more thorough health tracking and doesnāt require this terrible, arcane process for updating its software. Read our full review.
Appleās midrange wearable, the Apple Watch SE, serves as a step up from the Series 3, with features and a design similar to the last-gen Series 6.
We highlighted this deal yesterday, but it bears repeating, especially if youāre picking up an Apple Watch today. Add the Beats Fit Pro to your Apple tech repertoire from Amazon for $199.95 and youāll get a $25 Amazon gift card for free with purchase. This isnāt a price cut ā just a value-add in case youāre in the market today.
In our review, Chris Welch called this model the āsporty AirPod Pros with better sound.ā Hereās another quote from that review that might persuade you: āthese are the best earbuds Beats has ever made.ā They offer a great fit with their ear fins, and they also boast excellent noise cancellation. In addition to connecting seamlessly with the iPhone, Apple Watch, and more, they are compatible with Android, too. Read our review.
The Beats Fit Pro earbuds have integrated wing tips that help keep them secure during runs and workouts. They also have excellent noise cancellation, and their sound has just the right amount of bass and kick to keep you motivated.
Yesterday, I published a review on Horiās new Split Pad Pro Attachment, a clever wired controller for the Nintendo Switch. It actually builds upon a pre-existing product, the Split Pad Pro, which are like bigger, comfier Joy-Con alternatives. Since it costs $79.99 and doesnāt add useful features beyond a headphone jack for wired listening, I didnāt think the attachment was a great value.
At the end of the review, I recommended that most people just get the Split Pad Pros, which normally retail for $59.99 (sometimes less). But you can get an even better deal at Best Buy, where you can snag a translucent black set of Split Pad Pros for just $39.99.
The Hori Split Pad Pro is here to help alleviate hand cramping while playing on your Switch. While these controllers are quite a bit larger than your standard Joy-Cons, theyāre far more ergonomic. One note: they lack wireless support and rumble and donāt have NFC for Amiibo.
Some other deals for you
Ankerās 5,000mAh USB-C power bank that can snap onto MagSafe-compatible iPhones is down to $36.54 (normally $55) in a variety of colors on Amazon. While you can get batteries with a higher capacity for that price, its unique ability to stick to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13-series phones might make it worth buying for some people (especially if youāve considered Appleās pricier MagSafe Battery Pack).
The JBL Clip 4 portable Bluetooth speaker that boasts robust IP67 protection against water and dust is $20 off on Amazon. Normally $79.95, itās $59.95. The speaker charges via USB-C, and it can easily be clipped into a backpack with its built-in carabiner clip.
