The state assembly chooses the law firm to investigate the government

The New York State Assembly has tapped a white shoe law firm – and a lawyer who worked on the Russia investigation of special counsel Robert Muller – to investigate claims of sexual misconduct against Gov. Andrew Andrew.

Davis Polk and Wardell LLP will preside over the Legislative Assembly’s Judicial Committee on Wednesday by State Legislative Assembly Speaker Carl Hetty and Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Lavine.

“Hiring Davis Pork will give the committee the experience, freedom and resources necessary to handle this critical investigation in an in-depth and expedient manner,” Hettie said.

Davis Polk’s team will include attorneys Angela Burgess, Martine Beman and Greg Andres – a former Brooklyn federal prosecutor who most recently worked as an assistant special counsel on Muller’s Russia investigation.

Andres was also the chief trial lawyer who convicted former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Beman is also a former federal prosecutor who worked in the Southern District of New York, while Burgess is co-chairman of Davis Polk’s White Collar Defense and Investigation Group, according to his online autobiographies.

Davis Polk has offices worldwide, with major practices in such areas as capital markets, finance, tax, and white collar criminal defense.

A source told The Post earlier this week that the Legislative Assembly’s investigation, for possible impeachment proceedings, would have a wide latitude. “

Kyomo – who has been charged with seven inappropriate behaviors, including sexual harassment and molestation, is being investigated by state Attorney General Tish James.
