TJ McConnell’s triple-double: just how crazy was it?

Shooting right was an oddity. The dimes were more than you expected from a backup point defender. But the robbery, the theft that shocked TJ McConnell’s triple-double on Wednesday night.

McConnell made nine steals in the first half and 10 for the game, going on to go with 16 points (8 for 8 from the floor) and the Pacers’ 13-111 win over the Cavaliers.

To show how this eye looks, here are some historical notes:

  • First-half steals set an NBA record. McConnell missed one steal record in a game (11).
  • The first point-stealing combo for stealing the NBA’s official statue in 1973 and for a player off the bench was 11th.
  • The last player with such a triple-double was the Hawks Mukki block in April 1998.

“I was just playing with my defensive principles and trying to help run the team, I wasn’t going out of my way to steal,” McConnell said, per Associated Press.
