Toms River East wins Mid-Atlantic Regional opener

The 11- and 12-year-olds from Toms River, N.J., got exactly the start they wanted Sunday morning.

In the Mid-Atlantic Regional opener in Bristol, Conn., Tom River East defeated Canal Little League of Delaware, 3-0, to advance in the winner’s bracket, and will meet the Maryland representative, Montgomery County Little League, on Monday morning.

Joey DiMeo had a run-scoring triple and added another hit, and Cole Garrison struck out 10 batters over 5 ¹/₃ innings of shutout ball for Toms River. The team includes star Carson Frazier, the nephew of former Met and Yankee Todd Frazier, who in 1998 won the Little League World Series with a Toms River East squad dubbed “Beasts from the East.”
