Top 10 edge crowd

The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy gives his top 10 edge recipients in this year’s NFL draft, based on evaluations and interactions with people around the league:

  1. Quiet Pay, Michigan, 6-2, 261 pounds.: A lightning-fast 6.71-second three-cone drill to test agility in 2020. Played 4-3 end and showed good pace and edge-setting against the run. An undeclared recruit never lost the requisite motor.
  2. Jaylen Phillips, Miami, 6-5, 260 lbs.: Twitch athlete with best physical equipment and excellent production (15.5 tackles for loss last season). But he briefly pre-moved to UCLA to pursue a music career after reportedly suffering three findings.
  3. Aziz Ojullery, Georgia, 6-2, 249 lbs.: Tackle for loss led the team in SEC (12.5), sacks (8.5) and forced fumble (five), and quarterback pressure (35) in 2020. 3- Most suitable 4 front as a stand-up linebacker with first step in step.
  4. Greg Russo, Miami, 6-7, 266 pounds.: He and Chase Young were the only college players in 2019 with at least 15.5 sacks. Exited 2020, so limited experience gives them the label “boom-or-bust”. The former wide receiver is still learning better points.
  5. Jason Auwe, Penn State, 6-5 257 lbs.: Zero sack in 2020, playing without Micah Parsons to attract attention. Penn State added 30 pounds, but seems to be more explosive. Faith based projection because he remains raw even after good coaching.
  6. Carlos Basham Jr., Wake Forest, 6-3, 274 lbs: Streak of 23 consecutive matches to deal with losses during college. Best suited as 4-3 ends with body to be durable. The chase-down tackler who goes for the strip, especially at quarterback.
  7. Ronnie Perkins, Oklahoma, 6-2, 253 pounds.: Some scouts say he is close to his roof. The struggle for loss and sheer cruelty appeared on the film. So did versatility as a stand-up or hand-in-the-dirt rusher. Six-sport suspension in 2020 for allegedly unsuccessful drug testing.
  8. Joe Tyrone, Washington, 6-5, 259 pounds.: NFL-ready situational pass ranger who needs to develop as a run defender to gain more snaps. Checks all boxes for physical symptoms, but requires development after 2020 exit.
  9. Joseph Ossai, Texas, 6-4, 256 lbs.: East inside linebacker which is natural on the outside. The motor never stops – 145 tackles added the last two seasons – so old-school scouts and coaches would give her a high score on her “love of the game”.
  10. Peyton Turner, Houston, 6-5, 270 pounds.: The three-year starter who recovered during the injury suffered a five-game 2020 season. Ridiculous 84-inch wings – equal to Lebron James – and long-haul runners.

late riser

Oweh: The Pro 40-yard dash ran in 4.37 seconds, which is absurd for anyone’s size. Add in a 39.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot, 2-inch wide jump. The “eccentric” athlete of the class.

Fall fast

Rousseau: A potential top-10 pick at one point, some mock drafts now present him in the mid-second round. Critics say he looked “stiff” while lifting extra weight on Miami’s Pro Day and showed that many of his sacks were scored by downfield coverage.

Small-school wonder

Jordan Smith, UAB, 6-6, 255 lbs.: Suspended and transferred from Florida after an alleged credit card scam. It was 17.5 for loss in 2019 and forced four in 2019 to develop in his frame in the NFL’s weight room.
