Victim’s brother accuses LI doctor of drug related deaths

The unhappy brother of the patient, who had ingested a poisonous cocktail of drugs, said he hoped the Long Island doctor, bypassing his lethal prescriptions, alleged that he would now have to rot in prison.

“He had a license to commit murder,” Glenn Mylinis said, adding that his brother Robert Mylins was one of the five patients on whom Dr. George Blatty has been charged with killing by prescribing large amounts of opioids and other drugs, Nassau County Attorney Madeline Singas announced Thursday.

Blattie was charged with five counts of second-degree murder, causing the victims to suffer a fatal attack.

Robert had been Blattie’s patient for eight years and according to the district attorney, died on January 10, 2017, after 11 days of “mixed drug poisoning”.

“He was in jail with drugs,” Glenn said. “He was the correctional officer with the key, and now it’s his turn to rot in the jail.”

According to the DA, insurers repeatedly warned Blattis that he was handing over to Robert.

Robert was once prescribed nine times the maximum dose of an opioid painkiller.

Blatti allegedly handed over 79 scripts to Robert for a total of 10,620 bullets over a period of two and a half years.

“It’s enough to kill a thousand elephants,” Glenn said.

When Glenn learns that his brother is being given prescription medication, he sneaks into Blattie’s office and begs her to stop.

“I’m going to the doctor’s office and said, ‘You need to stop giving him medicine, it’s out of control,’ and he said, ‘I can’t do that.’ ‘

“I said, ‘What are you talking about, you can’t do that – you are a doctor. I understand that if you are overly addicted then reduce her a little bit so that she doesn’t get sick. Leave her’ and she Said, ‘I can’t do that.’

Glenn told the doctor, “If something happens to my brother, we are going to have a problem.” He recalled what light was around his brother.

He said that Robert was a “man’s man”, who loved the outdoors and made people laugh. “He was cheerful. He brightened the day by walking through the door, ”Glenn said.

“He loved children, he taught all the children of East Rockaway how to make fish. You’ll see him walking with his fishing pole and netting for crabs with about 20 children. We used to call them Pied Piper of East Rockaway. “

In 2019, Blatty was accused of selling prescriptions for opptides. Two years ago, the New York State Department of Health Office of Professional Medical Conduct interviewed the doctor, but no disciplinary action was taken then.

He has been barred from practicing medicine since 2019, according to a spokesman for the NYS Department of Health.

“How many more people had to die? Glenn said five people lost their lives to stop it.

“He really cried to me that he didn’t want to be on these drugs, but he didn’t know what to do. I wanted to help him but he just stuck, like he had no choice,” Glenn said.

Glenn could not face the defendant in court today and instead thought of his brother.

“I think my brother is sorry that he ever met George Blatty and hopes he stays in jail.”

“Just because he wore a white coat does not mean he was above the law.”
