Vice President Kamala Harris received a rousing reception Saturday as she surprised fans at Washington DC’s Audi Field ahead of the annual Howard-Hampton football matchup.
“It’s Kamala!” students shouted from the sidelines as they caught their first glimpse of Howard University’s best-known alumna when she arrived to perform the traditional coin toss.
The game, dubbed the “Truth and Service Classic,” is the 96th meeting of the two powerhouse historically black universities — and the first football match ever held at the brand-new soccer stadium located just outside Howard’s campus.
Her alma mater won the veep’s flip after Hampton called tails.
Harris, Howard Class of 1986, is the first graduate of an HBCU to be elected to the nation’s second-highest office.
