Who won the NASCAR race yesterday?
Martin Truex Jr. took control at the start of the race and never left it. He competed in all three stages, something that makes his run historic: He is the winner of the first leg in Darlington to win the race there.
“I’m glad I could do that,” Truex told Fox Sports’s Regan Smith in an on-track interview. “We have won a bunch of stages here over the years. It is always Lady Luck (who) we got, track position, it will be one thing or the other. “
His team knew how impressive the number 19 car was:
Kyle Larsen tried his best to run Truex in Stage 3 as the traffic lead worked slow, but Truex eventually took off and Larson faded.
“He actually had a chance to get between (turn) 1 and 2, but I figured I’d be patient and maybe give him my stuff to use,” Larson told Fox Sports. He said, ‘But I was a little better than the long runs. I just wish I could have taken advantage of that opportunity, but I felt that it was to play a little differently. “
NASCAR Results from Darlington
Truex and Larsen went far ahead of the rest of the Goodyear 400 arena on NASCAR’s annual throwback weekend. Third-place driver Kyle Busch was 6.209 seconds behind the winner. William Byron and Truex teammate Denny Hamlin finished in the top five.
Hamlin maintained his big lead in the Cup Series point standings with a series-best ninth top-five finish, but remained unscathed in the first 12 races of the season.
Like if things can’t get better for Truex, he will race at his home track, Dover (Del.) International Speedway, next Sunday at the Dryden 400 (2pm ET; FS1, TSN, MRN, SiriusX NASAAR Radio) ; ) Belongs to. Tretx shakes from Mayetta, NJ, about two hours north-east of the track.
