A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot in the Bronx Sunday afternoon, police sources told The Post.
The male gunman got out of the backseat of a black sedan outside 743 East 187th Street near Prospect Avenue at around 3:15 p.m. and opened fire at two boys on the street, sources said.
One of the boys was struck once in the chest and once in the ankle, as the other bolted, sources said.
The shooter then got back in the vehicle and fled.
The injured boy was taken to Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, sources said.
He would’ve turned 14 at the end of the month, sources added.
A police spokesman said the boy is not believed to have been an innocent bystander.
Sources said the dead teen had six arrests and two sealed busts — including for assault, robbery, burglary and criminal mischief.
Resident Luis Mercado, 61, said he was on the corner having a conversation when shots rang out and people started running for cover.
“I hit the floor,” Mercado told The Post. “I heard boom, boom, boom.”
He said he saw one of the boys running into a cafe after about five shots were fired.
The shooter was described as wearing a burgundy hoodie, light-colored sweat pants and black sneakers.
Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related — or connected to a fatal shooting last Wednesday of 19-year-old Tyquill Daugherty, who was gunned down a few blocks away on Prospect Avenue, sources said.
Mercado, who lives with his elderly father, lamented the gun violence — which amid a surge in shootings across the Big Apple this year.
“There’s other way to fix problems,” he said. “You didn’t have to use a gun. What happened when the men used to be men? Fight it out in hand-to-hand contact.”
“I thought this neighborhood was safe but now you gotta watch out,” Mercado added.
