Texas Draft 2021 Selects: When Does Houston Choose Next? Full list of nfl draft selections

In case you’re wondering how disastrous Bill O’Brien’s tenure was for the Houston Texans. He landed three first or second-round draft picks for the Miami Dolphins for Laremy Tuncil and a 2020 second-round pick and DeAndre Hopkins for David Johnson. Due to O’Brien’s mismanagement of resources, Texas no longer holds the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In fact, they do not pick up until round 3.

This is bad news for Houston, especially considering the quarterback Countryside Watson is not happy with the franchise. Now, Watson is dealing with his own off-the-field concerns that the NFL is reviewing through its Personal Conduct Policy, so this is yet another problem facing the Texans this year.

There is no easy way to fix Texas right now, especially given their lack of overall talent. Nick Cassario and David Quli will have their work cut out for them, and if they really want to upgrade their team, they have to be focused in finding the rough diamonds during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Texas need nfl draft

  • Defensive Combat: Texas had the NFL’s worst defense last year and DJ Reeder was clearly not remembered. Now, they will also be without JJ Watt. They have to find a quality defensive missile in the middle round of the draft, or at least add a strong run-stuffer to the fold.
  • Wide receiver: Houston had one of the NFL’s best receiver rooms not too long ago. Now, they are led by Brandin Cook and Randall Cobb. The Texans have signed five WRs to this lineage, but none seems like a true No. 1 option. They will have to try to find one in the weighted receiver class.
  • Cornerback: Vernon Hargreave cannot be trusted in a major role on this defense. Adding Terrence Mitchell and Desmond King, this is a good start for the Office Texans, but they need a true No. 2 corner to keep a long-term pairing with Bradley Robbie. Otherwise, they would ruin Robbie’s chief.
  • Offensive line: Trading for Marcus Cannon and signing Justin Brit is a good move, but Texas still needs more depth. Titles Howard is lacking in the right tackle and if the Brit cannot stay healthy, he will need an insurance policy at the center.
  • Quarterback: If Deon Watson doesn’t really want to play for the Texans again, he’ll need to find a new young quarterback to develop behind Tyrod Taylor and compete with Ryan Finale. It will be easier said than done in the third round and beyond.
