Woman killed in bear attack in Colorado

A 39-year-old Colorado woman died in a bear attack on Friday.

An unknown Durango resident was walking with his dogs when he was attacked by an animal, Park officials said.

According to authorities, her body was found by her boyfriend on Friday night from a highway near Trimbell. According to the release, he made a serious search outside his house after coming home to find the dogs and the missing woman.

“Officers responded and there were signs of consumption of the bear’s body and hair in abundance at the scene,” the release said.

Officials said a team of investigative dogs found a female bear around two years old.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the animals were streamlined.

“Bear attacks are extremely rare,” said Cory Chick, CPW Southwest Region manager.

“It is a sad event and a sad reminder that bears are wild and potentially dangerous. Out of abundance, the bear was removed for public safety. We ask the public to report any encounter with an aggressive bear to CPW. “
