Another Taijuan Walker is ranked seventh directly behind Gems

Happy Walker Day.

While the Mets’ past was not on a glittering performance for Matt Harvey’s return to Citi Field on Wednesday, the present couldn’t have looked much better.

Tissuan Walker looked like an offseason steal, with a second straight off performance each time, making it a 7–1 win over the Orioles, the Mets’ seventh straight win.

Walker gave up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. The right-hander has surrendered just one earned run in his last 14 innings, and he saw ERA Shrivel 2.20 (which is still only the third-best in the Mets rotation), behind Jacob Zigrom’s 0.68 and Marcus Strowman’s 2.01. . The Mets starters pitch for a 1.80 ERA during the winning streak.

A solid defense behind the pitcher has helped. The latest contribution was provided by Michael Conforto, whose diving grab in the right field gap robbed Austin Hayes in the third inning.

“Our defense has been fantastic all year, we’re making big plays, especially in the outfield,” Walker said. “I like to pitch to contact, and the offense did a good job, which runs quickly and we just kept putting it up, so it was easy for me to get there and just try to get out early.”

Harvey was traded by the Mets in 2018 since his first appearance on the mound at Citi Field, receiving the mound when he picked up the mound, batted and left the game. But not once did the Dark Knight oppose the Mets’ bat much.

He followed in the fifth with the Mets just before halftime and as reliever Sean Armstrong saw two inherited runners allowed to score. Overall, Harvey was charged for seven earned runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts, and his ERA improved from 3.60 to 4.81.

“What the fans gave me was very unbelievable,” Harvey said. “I was holding back tears. I am not lying about that, it was very difficult to catch them.

Walker, who reached $ 20 million late in the offshin (after missing out on options like Trevor Bauer and James Paxton) in a two-year deal, has secured a 1.11 ERA this season.

“I feel confident in myself and I felt confident last year,” said Walker, who returned from Tommy John surgery in 2020, missing the most over the past two seasons. “I showed that I had a pair of more pitches, and my only focus this year is to go out there and try to help the team ball ball. Try to go deep into the games. I don’t care that I can give people Proving wrong or not. I know what I can do and the Mets believe me and they know what I can do as well.

Early offensive support provided him with a good cushion, as the Mets matched their highest scoring output during the winning streak. Dominic Smith led the offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance, as the Mets played the third straight game without a home run.

Jonathan Willer led off the fifth to take second, before Conforto strugled an RBI single with a single. After Pete Alonso’s walk, Harvey’s afternoon ended, Smith gave the RBI a double for his third hit. Jose Perza’s RBI single cut the lead to 7-0.

Kevin Pilar’s two-run triple in the second – hitting the ball over the fence at left-center – gave the Mets a 2–0 lead. Perza’s upcoming RBI extended that lead.

Smith’s RBI defeated Harvey 4–0 in the third. Francisco Lindor started the singings and moved up to second before Smith was given two outs.

Walker scored 11 straight batters, starting in the second innings. This was followed by a start in St. Louis last week, which he ended by retiring 18 straight.

Manager Louis Rojas said, “He has weapons, and right now I think the command is really good, so those two things are helping.” “The veto is a tick compared to a few years ago. All that, you can throw it into the mix and everything is playing him the same way he is playing right now. “
