Reacting to the death of Vice President Walter Mondale, President Joe Biden recalled him as a “dear friend and protector” who gave him credible guidance throughout his political career.
In a statement released after Mondale’s death, Biden said that he and First Lady Jill Biden spoke to the former vice president and his family over the weekend.
According to a family spokesman, Mondale died at the age of 93, former Senator Mondale, who served as VP under the leadership of Jimmy Carter.
“When I arrived in the United States Senate in 1973, Walter Mondley was one of the first people to congratulate me. Through his work as a senator, he showed me what was possible, ”Biden said in his statement.
“There have been some senators before or since, who commanded such universal respect.
Biden said Mondley was the first person to visit him after former President Obama became his president.
“Not only did he take my phone, he also wrote me a memo. It was Walter Mondale who defined the Vice President as full participation, and helped provide a model for my service, ”said Biden.
