Biotech researcher bought 800 castor beans to extract ricin: fed

Officials said Tuesday that a research director at a Massachusetts biotechnology firm has been arrested by federal authorities for allegedly acquiring the highly toxic poison raisin.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts, the 37-year-old Dr. Ishtiaq Ali Sayyam, a doctorate in biomedical engineering, was reportedly ordered to extract toxins from 100 packet castor beans.

Each packet contained eight beans.

The accused said Synam, who hails from Pennsylvania, is accused of lying to investigators who questioned his purchase, stating that he only had to buy a packet of castor to decorate and decorate his home.

After the first investigation, prosecutors said that Siam did research on homemade tasteless venom.

In the second meeting with the officials, he again claimed that castor beans were for planting at home.

Authorities said Saaem has been charged with obstructing justice.
