City Councilman Brad Lander will become the next city Comptroller, beating his opponents in Tuesday’s election in a landslide.
The Democrat held more than 77 percent of the vote share while Republican longshot Daby Carreras garnered just 16 percent with 17.89 percent of scanners reporting, preliminary Board of Elections results show.
Local cable channel NY1 called the race around 9:20 pm.
The left-wing lawmaker’s expected general election win comes after he upset Council Speaker Corey Johnson in June’s Democratic primary.
Lander, 52, will take over in January for current Comptroller Scott Stringer. Comptrollers approve city contracts, manage the city’s pension funds and audit city agencies.
He currently represents Park Slope, Gowanus and surrounding neighborhoods in the City Council, where is part of the body’s progressive caucus.
