‘Bridgerton’ star details ’embarrassing’ wardrobe malfunction

What would the ladies of the ton say?

“Bridgerton” actor Jonathan Bailey, who plays none other than “Capital R Rake” Anthony Bridgerton, revealed a quite improper wardrobe malfunction that occurred while filming Season 2.

While attending a press event for the hit period drama’s new season, which premieres on Netflix Friday, the actor told members of the media that “there were multiple moments” when asked if there had been any bloopers on set.

“The fencing sequence brought about its complications,” Bailey, 33, said.

“But the fencing outfits were quite tight in various places and we were wearing plimsolls on quite a dewy morning on grass. Going in for my final lunge with Benedict, my crotch ripped and it was all on camera.”

The British actor, who previously starred in the drama “Broadchurch,” said he emerged red-faced from the situation.

“It’s just in those moments where you suddenly realize that you’re being filmed by 400 cameras and I sort of screamed, ‘This is so embarrassing.’”

Luckily, through some filming wizardry, they were able to disguise the incident.

“There are lots of complications along the way, it’s never quite as slick as you think,” he said. “It’s amazing what you can do in the edits.”

Of the series’ amazing period attire, Bailey added, “Obviously, the costumes were incredible across the board and, as men, we are not going to complain about restrictive clothing when we are sat with women who wear corsets.”

Speaking of corsets, the actor — who is currently starring in the West End play “Cock” — wasn’t the only “Bridgerton” star with wardrobe woes.

Simone Ashley, who stars as Bailey’s love interest, Kate Sharma, in the new season, shared in a recent interview that wearing the old-fashioned undergarments involved “a lot of pain.”

Adding that she had to be sick after eating a huge lunch, she told Glamour UK, “I realized when you wear the corset, you just don’t eat. It changes your body.”

Fans can catch the gorgeous (if painful) Regency styles when Season 2 of Bridgerton hits Netflix March 25; we’ll be watching that fencing scene with an eagle eye.

Simone Ashley plays Kate Sharma, a woman dead set against Anthony Bridgerton courting her sister.
