Captain America as creator and emblem of Winter Soldier on Falcon and Race

Falcon and Winter Soldier Series producer, Shorners, and lead author Malcolm Spellman say he “struggled hard” for the right to do the series: Interested in black art and social issues, with a career as a black creator, he made the show Was seen as an opportunity. The Frank series about race in the US, on Disney Plus on Friday 19 March, two weeks after the previous TV series from the streaming outlet, Vandavision, Wrapped up – Hero Sam Wilson, aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stein), aka Winter Soldier, focus on how to cope with the loss of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is. Avengers: Endgame. Specifically, Sam is dealing with Steve’s invitation to Sam to become the new Captain America to take over Steve’s old shield and costume.

This is a natural move for Spellman, who previously produced and wrote for the TV series The empireAbout the succession battle at a hip-hop music company, and the executive produced the documentary series Hip hop open. He is the co-owner of the Oakland hip-hop production collective Blackball Universe, and was partnered with his wife Nickel game of Thrones David Hanioff and DB Weis’ show airs HBO series ConfederacyA proposed alternative history drama in which Southern slavery persisted until modern day. Ahead of Falcon and Winter SoldierFor the premiere, Spellman spoke to Reporter Door via a video conference about how he would like Marvel’s ardent fans to react to the series, why it is equally relevant on today’s news, and he did another show on Marvel Studios Shown with grief, loss, and recovery.

What did Marvel Studios tell you about this project?

I think people have a feeling that the Marvel Brain Trust are these puppets who control people at every step. And it is not so. Having said that, they are very involved creatively. So to describe this process: You show up and they like it – it’s different for every project, but for this one, they have three different possible storylines to choose from, and then one of the characters The menu has to be selected. But he also told you, “It’s just to start a conversation.” The thing you end up on landing is different from all of that. They just like being involved in the process, and creatives know what they are thinking. And it helps, because without them there is no way to create in Marvel, because a whole huge thing is happening around you.

So you chose the characters from the menu? Were you involved in deciding to bring back Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes?

Not for this I believe the series was hosted by Mr. Faige and all Marvel fans at that 12-second moment Captain america civil war When Sam and Bucky are sitting in a car together. I think everyone knew that they must have had something from that moment. And it was the right time to bring it to life.

How would you relate the entire series to such a brief joke scene?

In a strange way, I feel guilty. I think this is a cheat code. Because what those guys did in those 12 seconds was so rare, that you really know what it looks like to have them onscreen. And you know that you can lean into it. But as far as the actual character work is concerned, we took a deep dive. We’ve actually processed all the stuff Bucky is carrying around from all those murders, and being manipulated by Hydra for decade after decade. We brought him to bear and ensured that through a character he would have to deal with it, and he was about to fail or succeed in committing his sins through this character. This is his own personal story which has nothing to do with A-Story.

On top of that, we had all his backstory to take. We knew she is 106 years old, which is another thing that makes her feel like each other. And for Sam, it was very clear to us that H needed the character to begin to deal in two ways, on a shield with strings and straps. Number one, the loss of a furry friend, and those giant shoes that anyone picked up that mantle would need to be filled. And then the second thing as a black person, is it appropriate to have that symbol as well? That symbol means something different in Sam’s hands than it is in Steve. And I think the audience is going to be surprised to see how she reacts to it. Because I think a lot of people are thinking, “Oh, after Endgame

, We know what Sam is going to do. “And they are shocking.

How did you make your mark in these scripts?

This was because I wanted this series, because I am black. I knew this was a huge opportunity. I knew that this was such a topical story. Sam not taking the shield Sam is relevant at the moment today and whatever is happening in the world is almost the same as what you see in the news. So for me, it was important. I struggled hard to get it. I knew what my Anthony thought I could do. It is not that it is a revelation. MCU has books that deal with this issue.

How are you going to keep the tension and investment in the MCU story when you’re going through a literal world-breaking wager for a black family applying for a bank loan?

Okay, we wanted to make sure that we did it: not show up with an agenda, not focus on the natural story, the biological story. Is to lead that path. And within this, the character adopts the things you’re talking about, those serious issues are brought to life through the character, and through the people in their lives. Like Sam’s sister, we put her there because we knew she was also strong opinionated, and might not be so cool with the idea [him becoming Captain America], right? And that is important to him. He praises her. She represents her history growing up in the South. So what do you do, you load it up as you load up her personal life, so the issue can be systematically present in the show without being shaken up and it can feel like you’re in the pulpit trying.

It seems from the first episode that you mean a black person actively representing America as America’s best symbol, in an era where America is again grappling with its vast racial issues.

I don’t see any way around this. Hand in hand, there’s someone there – we’ll be dishonest if we try to run from it. And I think that’s proved with Marvel black Panther That you may be the substance in MCU stories. As long as you are having fun and doing it openly, fans of Marvel will accompany you on that ride.

Vandavision Was a big hit with the type of audience who want to decode and anticipate a show and solve it as it happens. How are you hoping that fans will associate with this series?

I showed as a fan. Everyone who works on Marvel is a real fan. These projects all originate from Phandix, and you hope they are about to go on a ride with you. I think this one – does not like the way it enters the story Vandavision. The series was a mystery, with fans trying to fill in the blanks. This story is very much a card-up. And it is super-emotional on its face in a way that is obvious. Even the plot is much more open. Hence, there can be no speculation from the fans.

I just wish they didn’t appreciate Sam, because he didn’t attend his entire trip. All they have got to do is “why?” Those who know will not ask, and this is going to force them. And those who don’t get it, well, they go on this ride with this man, and see how he came.

What kind of emotional journey can we expect for Sam and Bucky here?

it is too big. First, both of them have to deal with the loss of Steve Rogers. And the fact that he is gone is revealing their relationship. It is almost as if they are feeding each other as a point of blame for the loss of Steve Rogers. And on top of that, he has the symbol to remind him that his best friend is gone. The world we create is also a world that needs Captain America. Thanos is sent away, 3.5 or 4 billion people reappear after being gone for five years and turning the world into anarchy. So there’s really only one hero who can calm that type of situation, and he’s gone. And there is no one, obviously, to take the mantra in the right way. So I think the audience of loss exists in the plot, in the world, and in the two characters.

Vandavision It was also fundamentally about grief, loss and recovery. Do you feel like this is going to be a major Marvel theme?

So the global theme for this thing is identity. We have five main characters who all have their own different journeys. You have Zemo, who sees in his mind the supremacy as a hero. Whether you call it vigilance or whatever, Zemo sees himself as a hero, and that is his goal.

Sharon Carter is being betrayed or abandoned, as she has been since Civil war, And he had to survive on his own. Bucky Barnes is dealing with grief. Also with john walker [played by Wyatt Russell] – They are both different incarnations of a veteran story, in which you do everything for one country, and then who is there to pick up the pieces for you? And then Sam is dealing with the symbolism of being Captain America, and is it fair. They each have an identity that begins to shut them down in a very frightening situation, because it is immediate and immediate, which they are working on. And by the end of this series, each of these characters is about to see themselves in a completely different way, and may be almost reborn.
