Chris Bryant Received ‘Welcome to Mets’ Lesson for this Offseason

Chris Bryant has to be aware of the prevailing rumors about his insult, but even he has to be surprised.

At one point during the descent, Bryant received a text from a random Connecticut number stating “Welcome to the Mets,” According to ESPN. Bryant called his agent and then told Jade Hoyer, the president of the Cubs, to make sure he wasn’t traded.

So for at least a few minutes, the former NL MVP thought he was on his way to New York.

Bryant, who made a move for the Mets, is still a possibility. The Cubs have already sent star pitcher Yu Darvish to the Padres, and let Kyle Schwarber run for the nationals. Bryant is a free agent in late 2021, and with a long-term expansion yet on the books, a trade will always be in the cards for a player of Bryant caliber.

The Mets can be tried at third base to upgrade from JD Davis, who is a solid hitter but minus defender. Bryant has seen a decline in his advanced defensive metrics at third base over the years, but has been solid in the hot corner over his career, and has the ability to play in the outfield as well.

“I approach that every year,” Bryant said. According to USA Today. “I think every year is a free agent year, just personally how I approach the sport and how I approach my personal life.

“I am proud to say that I have not changed at all. Honestly, my whole life, that’s me. I do not want to put too much pressure on myself. I want to be out there and be effective. It drives me to be who I am. ”
