Clint Frazier is officially no longer a Yankee.
The team announced Tuesday that it released Frazier and infielder Rougned Odor, four days after they were designated for assignment. Tyler Wade was also DFA’d, but the Yankees traded him to the Angels on Monday for a player to be named later or cash.
Frazier, 27, was the key piece in the return for Andrew Miller in a 2016 trade with Cleveland. The No. 5 pick in the 2013 draft — whom Yankees GM Brian Cashman hailed for his “legendary” bat speed — was named the starting left fielder for the 2021 season after a strong showing during the shortened 2020 campaign, but did not play after June 30 because of health issues related to dizziness.
“We poured into him as much as we possibly could,” Aaron Boone said of Frazier on Monday. “I do feel he made really good strides in a lot of areas in his game at different times. Some of the time missed with ailments and injuries are what ultimately kept him from finding a consistent path [in the majors] and at different times it was being a little blocked by some guys on the roster.”
