A budding rivalry could be brewing at NBC Sports.
On Thanksgiving, Mike Tirico and Drew Brees were the broadcasters for Saints vs. Bills on NBC, replacing the usual team of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth. At the open of the telecast, Brees mimicked Collinsworth’s trademark slide.
“C’mon Drew,” Collinsworth reacted, in jest. “Don’t make it look so easy.”
With all due respect to Collinsworth, he is incorrect that Brees make this slide look “easy.” The former All-Pro receiver, who has had several years of practice, typically comes in with a much more fluid motion, like so:
While Collinsworth may not be the best judge of others’ slides, he can hang his hat on having come up with a move that regularly draws attention. The imitation from Brees is the sincerest form of flattery.
