‘Dark Side of the Ring’ will show the side of Ultimate Warrior, which we haven’t seen

The Ultimate Warrior is one of Pro Wrestling’s most complex figures, and the “Dark Side of the Ring” Lightning Rod is trying to make more and more reference to the artist.

Warrior, whose birth name was Jim Hellwig before he was legally changed in 1993, is one of the subjects of the third season of the premiere Wrestling documentary on May 6 (VICE, 9pm) with Brian Pillman in a two-hour episode. The series co-creator Evan Hasney said that he and partner Jason Eisner took on the Warrior story after fans overwhelmingly pushed for another “true” documentary. WWE has released separate DVDs exposing both sides of Warrior and is collaborating with A&E which will air later this year.

“You have these two extremes, former WWE docs and all this vitriol and then you have another one where we are now like to lionize him,” Husni said. “It is two different extremes. We just kind of want to bring it back and say let’s just talk about that person and can we try to understand this person because largely he is one of the more misunderstood and enigmatic personalities Which is also seen by wrestling, ”said Husni.

The former WWF (now WWE) champion ran the meteorite in the company for five years. The stretch came to an end with him defeating Hulk Hogan for the belt at WrestleMania VI in 1990, when he crashed at SummerSlam 1991 without threatening a show if Vince McMahon did not let him play the $ 500,000 game , He believed that he did not pay WrestleMania VII. . Warrier’s first run with the company did not end long after. He had a short WWF stint in 1996 and spent six months in 1998 at WCW.

Warrier was one of the greatest-to-life and ageless-feeling characters of his time. But “Dark Side of the Ring” will give fans a different picture of the man behind the facepaint after a conversation with Warri’s first wife, Sherry Tyree. He revealed that Warrior dealt with extreme anxiety and talked about how he played a role in his relationships with people in the company and some of the decisions he took. Eisner said as a lifelong admirer of the Warrior that it zooms the man.

“I grew up with all his action figures and just saw him as a very confident, crazy, over-the-top character, but to hear that he had a lot of anxiety and he would get so nervous before the matches, that I would be Could have related it in a way, “Eisner said.” I get it. Especially going to public places and speaking in front of a large crowd, I worry a lot about that kind of stuff. So I cannot imagine going into something like WrestleMania and you are someone who suffers from extreme anxiety. “

Warrier changed his broken relationship with the WWE and several of his former allies, including Hogan, when he went to the WWE Hall of Fame on April 5, 2014. Warrior died on 8 April 2014, after a WrestleMania Weekend finale and good feelings. Heart disease in 54. Hasni said that while filming the episode he learned that the heart disease ran in Warrier’s family and that everyone on his side died in his 50s. Tyree tells him and Eisner that the reality was that Warrior was fully aware all the time and felt that his time might be limited.

“When you think of quick growth and ruthlessness and a business strategy of strangulation, he tried to manipulate his way to the top, which you think would surprise him, and moments of his reconciliation before he died. Whether he is trying to get it all in the first place. The duration of his life decreases. “For me it was like this, which puts it in a different perspective.”
