Death of Texas prisoner leads to murder verdict by medical examiner

According to a report, a schizophrenic Texas inmate killed while being restrained by correctional officers has died.

Marvin Scott III died of a “fatal acute stress reaction in a person with schizophrenia previously diagnosed during a restraint conflict with law enforcement” on March 14, Collin County Medical Examiner William Rohr ruled. CBS affiliate KTVT-TV reported on Wednesday.

Marvin was jailed on charges of misdemeanor marijuana possession following his arrest in Allen, Texas.

The 26-year-old Frisco resident was initially taken to a hospital after his arrest during a possible mental health crisis.

Seven officers in the Colin County Jail were fired after Marvin Scott died.

He was then taken to jail and began “exhibiting some strange behavior” in the booking area, Colin County Sheriff Jim Skinner said at a news conference after a fatal incident last month.

Authorities said Scott was stopped for a bed and pepper spray, and placed a spit on his head and held there for about four hours.

Seven correctional officers at the Coleen County Jail, including a captain, a lieutenant and two sergeants, were fired earlier this month after Marvin’s death.
