DNA links Ohio man to bride’s murder of ex-wife in 1995

Police arrested an Ohio man for the 1995 sexual exploitation and murder of a teacher, who said he had a bride at his wedding.

Clayton Bernard Foreman, 61, was linked to the Texas cold case of school teacher Mary Catherine Edwards through DNA and a genealogy website in which investigators were eyeing the family tree of the accused killer.

“We can track a family, but we can’t track it down to one person,” District Attorney Bob Wortham Told 12NewsNow

.

According to reports, police were able to extract DNA from the waste which Foreman placed on the curb outside his home in Ohio and took him into custody last week. His DNA matched DNA from the semen found at Edwards’ home after the murder.

On March 14, 1995, Edwards was found dead in the bathroom of her Beaumont, Texas-based home, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety website. She was drowned with her hands, behind her back and her head full in water in the bathtub, KJAS.com reported.

Authorities focused their attention on the foreman and found that he had previously been convicted for raping a classmate in the 1980s. In that case, the victim allegedly tied her hands behind her back.

According to reports, school teacher Mary Catherine Edwards became a bride in 1982 at the wedding of Clayton Bernard Foreman.

The report stated that Edwards, who was 31 years old, was a high school classmate of Foreman’s and a bride at his 1982 wedding. He and his wife divorced two years before Edward’s murder and were said to have attended Edwards’ funeral.

According to KJAS, she lived alone in her townhouse, and when she did not answer her father went home and found her dead.
