Edwin Diaz does additional work for Mets Save

Edwin Diaz’s fifth save of the season required the most work.

Sunday was called in the eighth inning as the tie came to the running plate, with the Mets winning the Diamondbacks 4–2 over Siri Field out of their team’s final five.

The five-out save matched Diaz’s career longest – he had one with the Mariners in 2016. This marked Diaz as the first save from more than one inning in his three seasons with the Mets.

“My plan of attack doesn’t change,” Diaz said through an interpreter, when asked about the extended presence. “I always go there with the same plan, which is to bat by the batsman. Lately, I’ve been doing it more pitch by pitch, to see how to execute those pitches. “

Diaz hit David Peralta in a double play to finish eighth. In the ninth, Nick Ahmed struck out the first two right-handed batsmen before reaching a pop-fly single in front of Jonathan Willer. Diaz made the final out to dismiss Dolton Warshow.

This was Diaz’s third straight solid performance since May 2, when he struggled in Philadelphia, where he scored three runs in the ninth inning and left the game before being dismissed for the final.

Diaz’s four-seam fastball velocity has averaged 98.9 mph this season, up from 97.8 in 2020. To this, Diaz partly attributes his offseason approach, in which he states that he gained about 10 pounds.

“I think that played a part in it,” he said. “But the biggest thing was mechanics. I have learned how to use your feet, how to strengthen your feet, because this is where the strength comes from the arm to take some tension. In fact, the credit goes to me. “

Barnes, Trevor May, Aaron Laup, Jears Familia, Miguel Castro and Robert Geselman have largely accounted for the Bulls’ Mets 1.71 ERA since April 22. Bail to ERA.

Diaz said, “We have a great bullpen. “We go out there, we compete hard every single day, and that’s what we’ve been doing. We go there and I’m happy with how people are doing. I’m happy with how people are competing.” And if we stay healthy and we pursue what we are doing.
