Note to online trolls: Don’t come for Mina Kimes.
On Monday, the ESPN star shared an awful email she received from a critic named Charles Brown, who spat that she was “pretending to actually know anything about male sports,” among other sexist remarks.
“The only reason you’re at ESPN is due to affirmative action,” the message read. “Jeff Saturday must privately feel so emasculated having to pretend to have an intellectual back and forth about professional sports with someone wearing lipstick and high heels.”
Kimes quipped on Twitter, “Sir this is a Wendy’s,” in regard to the email, and fellow ESPNer Saturday sang her praises and told Brown to “pipe down.”
“This is absolute trash! Mina is fantastic at her job and has earned everything she has at ESPN. I can also tell you that I have reached out to Mina a number of times so that she could teach me about the use of analytics in football. She makes our NFL team better. Pipe down Charlie,” Saturday tweeted
Monday.
Countless others backed Kimes on Twitter as Brown’s nasty note spread quickly across the internet.
“You are exceptional and I know you don’t need me to tell you that. Thank you for being a role model for young girls who love sports. Hopefully one day we will live in a world where they don’t get similar comments,” KSBW sports anchor Drea Blackwell posted.
Dan Orlovsky of ESPN’s “Get Up” also responded, “1) I don’t eat fast food 2) you wear heels? 3) you’re brilliant.”
In a follow-up tweet Monday, Kimes added: “I understand that ‘Don’t amplify’ argument, I really do. But I get asked by women every day whether it’s normal, and I want people to see: it never ends and it has absolutely nothing to do you with.”
Despite the trolls and their unwanted opinions, Kimes has become one of ESPN’s top and most respected talents since joining the network in 2014.
