Giancarlo Stanton lifts Yankees to win nationally

After winning 32 games without a walk-off this season, the Yankees are beginning to make it a habit.

Giancarlo Stanton beat the Yankees 3–2 to race to the left field in the bottom of the ninth inning once again – the second straight walk-off for the nationals on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

Citizens close to Brad Hand had a 2–1 lead in Saturday’s ninth inning, a game the Yankees eventually won 4–3 over 11 innings. He did not help himself on Sunday, when he started the bottom of the ninth by driving Tyler Wade on four pitches.

Aaron Judge, who was out of the lineup in a decision manager Aaron Boone called “proactive”, pinched for Brett Gardner and made a move. DJ Lemahieu then rolled the ground ball into the third, but defeated a potential double play on the runner with one of the corners, setting the stage for Stanton’s winner.

Aerolysis Chapman threw the ninth at the bottom of the scoring to give the Yanks a win at the start of the innings.

The Yankees (18–16) finished the nine-game homestand at 7–2 and went above two games for only the second time this season.

Domingo was working the shutout with a German 2–0 lead, as he was cruising in the seventh inning before the Nationals ambushed him to include him in the game. Josh Bell led off with a double differential of the first pitch and, one after the other, Kyle Schwarber crushed a high fastball and submitted it to the second deck in right field.

It ended the German’s heyday, relieved by Michael King after a 6 ₃ / ings innings chase and allowing two runs on five hits and walking a six. This marked the 19th time in the last 20 games that a Yankee starter has allowed three earned runs or fewer.

The Yankees had chances to maintain the lead in the seventh and eighth innings, but were missing big hits. Gardner doubled with one out of the seventh and Lemahieu followed with a trick, but Stanton grounded into double play. In the eighth, Aaron Hicks got second base with one out, but he was stranded there after Gary Sanchez was out and Clint Frazier knocked him out.

Although Hicks has struggled as a left-handed batsman to start the season at large, the switch hitter came with a big hit from the left to put the Yankees on the board for the first time. With one out in the third inning, Hicks worked a complete count before Gardner lined up from second to single-center field for a 1-0 lead.

The RBI single was the latest sign of Hicks’ debut, turning it into 10-27 with five moves in his final nine games.

Gleiber Torres crushed his first home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth inning, with no doubles for left field. The solo shot came in his 119th bat of the season, with the Yankees taking a 2–0 lead.

Meanwhile, the German worked around a single-base runner in his first four innings until he retired the Countrymen in the fifth and sixth innings.
