Girl breaks legs after jumping from NYC high rise to escape fire

An 8-year-old girl jumps off a sixth-floor balcony – breaking both her legs – to escape a raging inferno on a Bronx high-rise, The Post has learned.

According to officials, a fire broke out in the 17-story building on East 169th Street in the Morrisonia section at around 6pm on Wednesday.

Video from the scene shows flames and black smoke billowing out of a window into the sky.

Police sources said the girl got caught in flames and jumped from the balcony.

It is not clear where he landed.

Sources said that her 17-year-old aunt was smoking, when the fire broke out, ran to try and save the girl – but she went away due to heavy smoke.

The girl is listed in critical but stable condition after being admitted to Harlem Hospital.

Officials said the girl was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was listed in critical and stable condition.

Officials said another resident and two firefighters received minor injuries in the blast.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
