Gocycle folding G4 e-bike promises more power and less noise

The manufacturer of the most eye-catching and adaptable electric bike on the planet, Gocycle, is back with its fourth-generation e-bike. The G4 series brings a new motor, better tires, lighter carbon-fiber components, and to improve what is already one of our favorite e-bikes. But before you get too excited, know that the G4 range Will start At a suggested retail price of $ 3,999. G4, G4i and G4i Plus models are available for all pre order now.

For the money, the Gocycle makes a very premium e-bike that we have found equally suited for long-haul and multimodal travel, thanks to its compact quick-fold design with wide high-volume tires. This tradition continues with the G4 model.

The new motor is probably my favorite change and the feature I’m most excited to test. To start, the custom-built G4drive, now billed as “cool”, is brought in line with the most modern e-bike motors above, say, $ 1,300. It is also ready for power starting at a standstill. Previously, GoCycle relied on thigh power so that you could get off the line to keep the front-hub motor and removable batteries as small and light as possible. The G4drive promises more torque and power than what the G4drive still calls a “class-leading compact package”. we will see.

The new carbon fiber mid-frame and other improvements help reduce weight on all models by 1 kg.

With that stronger motor, other changes such as a switch to carbon fiber for the mid-frame and a single-sided fork help reduce weight by 1kg across the chain, while an infected silica compound catches better tires with promise . According to Gocycle, the Generation Four e-bike also improves connectivity with an integrated 1 amp USB charging port on the handlebar and Bluetooth carry and improves folding and power. Three and a half hours of fast charging is now standard throughout the range.

“The G4 has been in development for many years and represents the most significant product update for Gocycle since our G1 to G2 engineering program,” Gocycle designer and founder Richard Thorpe said in a press release. “Four models of our generation have been developed through a combination of listening to our customers and our continued mission to develop the best urban electric bike on the planet. The G4 will not only set a new standard for the Gocycle, but a new standard for performance in the portable electric segment for all of our competitors. ”
