Google Wins SpaceX Cloud Deal for Starlink Internet Service

Google has won a deal to provide cloud services to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which has launched several Starlink satellites to provide high-speed Internet, it said on Thursday.

SpaceX will establish ground stations within Google’s data centers that connect to Starlink satellites, enabling fast and secure Internet services through the Google Cloud, the search giant said.

The company said the service was expected to be available in the second half of 2021.

The deal comes at a time when demand for cloud-computing services has increased, with players such as Microsoft and Amazon dominating the market. Cloud companies have also ventured into the telecom sector due to the surge in demand for 5G connectivity.

According to the latest earnings report, Google’s cloud business accounts for about 7 percent of total revenue.

Last October, Microsoft won a similar deal with SpaceX to connect its Azure cloud computing platform to Starlink.
