Jaguars surprisingly already trying to trade C.J. Henderson

The Jaguars selected C.J. Henderson with the ninth-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Just a year later, Henderson could be traded.

In a surprising development, Jacksonville reportedly is open to moving the second-year cornerback out of Florida, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

There isn’t bad blood between Jackson and Jacksonville, ESPN reported, but first-year head coach Urban Meyer apparently feels the 22-year-old is expendable.

Jackson started eight games last season before suffering a season-ending groin injury, tallying one interception, one forced fumble, six passes defended and 36 tackles as a rookie.

“Really talented guy — good guy,” Meyer said of Henderson.

But, when asked whether it would be difficult for Henderson to overcome all of the time he has missed since his last game in November, Meyer ominously responded, “I don’t know.”

The Jaguars activated Henderson from the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, but he missed Sunday’s scrimmage.

The Jaguars have paid 64 percent of Henderson’s total contract ($13.09 million of $20.51 million in total), according to Pro Football Focus.
