Josh Allen, meet Josh Allen.
The Jaguars linebacker sacked the Bills quarterback in the second quarter of this week’s contest. It marks the first time a player has sacked a quarterback of the same name since the NFL started counting sacks in 1982, per NFL Research.
As if that wasn’t enough, the linebacker intercepted the quarterback in the third quarter.
The jokes surrounding the two Josh Allens have been out there ever since the Kentucky product was in the 2019 draft, where the Jaguars picked him seventh. But this is the first time the two Allens have played each other in a game.
It hasn’t taken long for the linebacker to make an impact. In addition to the sack, that Josh Allen had six tackles, two for a loss, in the first half. The other Josh Allen, though, struggled through the first part of the game, throwing for just 90 yards as the Bills scored just six points.
There didn’t seem to be much in the way of pleasantries between the two Josh Allens after the sack, but we have hope yet.
The San Francisco and New York Giants, famously, don’t get dinner when they’re in the same city. But maybe the Allens will. They’ve reportedly exchanged messages on Twitter and Instagram before.
At least, they were complimentary of each other this week.
“I’m just looking forward to playing against this team and looking forward to playing against him,” the Jaguars linebacker said, per the AP. “He’s been playing at a high level recently.”
Said the Bills quarterback: “We’ve shared, just exchanged messages, just common name and draft pick. A big fan of his. He’s a great player.”
