The Duchess of Cambridge scored big fashion points as she paid tribute to Princess Diana on the rugby pitch this weekend.

Kate Middleton arrived for the England vs. Wales Six Nations rugby match on Saturday in a sleek Holland Cooper houndstooth jacket ($602) and black turtleneck, in an outfit that was strikingly similar to one her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, wore to watch the same teams play in 1993.

The houndstooth piece is described by the British heritage brand as “hand cut and made entirely in England using wools woven in the UK.”

While Diana wore her houndstooth jacket and turtleneck with a black maxi skirt with tall boots, Middleton, 40, chose a form-fitting pair of black trousers by L.K. Bennett (on sale for $117, originally $195) and $695 Gianvito Rossi suede pumps

for her rugby appearance.

The royal wore some bargain accessories with her high-end coat, showing off her England Rugby pride with the team’s fan scarf (on sale for $17, originally $21) and adding a sold-out pair of $7 Accessorize drop earrings she’s worn at several previous events.

She also carried a favorite handbag, choosing the Tusting Mini Holly style ($420).

Saturday’s rugby showdown was a family affair as Middleton joined husband Prince William and eldest son Prince George for the match, with the 8 year old sporting a red-and-blue Ralph Lauren puffer jacket.

It was a competitive night for the family since William serves as patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, while Kate was announced as patron of the England Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League this month.

Ultimately, Kate’s team was victorious, winning 23-19, proving that this might be her lucky jacket.
