This is definitely a McQueen fit for a queen.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a military parade during their last day in Jamaica today, and the stunning white lace dress Kate Middleton wore evoked vintage memories of Her Majesty.
As noted by Royal Wikipedia on Twitter, the short-sleeved Alexander McQueen dress is strikingly similar to the one worn by Queen Elizabeth at a 1954 garden party in Australia.
The demure, below-the-knee frock features a square neck and a ribbon waist and she paired it with a wide floral-trimmed hat by Philip Treacy and white pumps.
Along with honoring her grandmother-in-law with the outfit, Middleton, 40, also included another sentimental touch: Princess Diana’s pearl bracelet and diamond-and-pearl earrings on loan from the Queen.
She also chose the Anya Hindmarch “Maud” pearl-embellished clutch ($525) to round off her accessory theme.
As for Prince William, 39, he looked dashing wearing the Tropical Dress of the Blues and Royals as he joined in the Jamaica Defence Force Commissioning Parade.
Middleton watched on with pride as her husband took part in the event, which was held to honor newly commissioned officers.
In another poignant moment, the couple left the parade in an open-topped Land Rover, just as Prince William’s grandparents did back in 1953 when they visited Jamaica as part of their Commonwealth tour.
As shared in a video by Daily Express reporter Richard Palmer, the couple were driven from the parade grounds in the vintage vehicle, which was actually used by the Queen and Prince Philip during their 1962 visit to Jamaica.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Middleton has worn a white lace creation by Alexander McQueen.
The designer famously created her wedding gown, and the duchess has chosen the British label on countless occasions through the years from dressy coats to floaty evening gowns to smart trouser suits, as seen yesterday in Jamaica.
Today marks the Cambridges’ final day in Jamaica before they depart for the Bahamas, but luckily, fashion fans have more to look forward to through the weekend as the royal tour continues.
