Let’s see how Marvel’s FX team created a new “visual language” for Falcon and Winter Soldier

Now that Falcon and Winter Soldier Wrapped up and we’re still a few weeks away from the start bottle gourd, Marvel has released a back-of-the-scene video detailing CGI effects on its YouTube channel, making it appear that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) was flying through the air as a Falcon [minor spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched the show yet].

“What I really wanted to do for the big action scenes was, as much as possible, to make things feel as if they were frozen in reality,” Levene explains. “Obviously, we don’t have Anthony McKee flying around in a real jet pack with real wings, but we wanted to realize how we would have filmed him if he were?”

Miracle

He says director Kari Skolgand wanted the flying scenes to genuinely convey the authentic feeling of a man flying through the air with wingsuit pilots serving as inspiration. But they were trying to avoid emulating the flight patterns of other heroes in the MCU that could fly, such as Iron Man, Leven added. The result was a new visual language for the show, he said.
