Luke Voit tearing, Yankees return with minors imminent

Luke Voyt is on track to join the Yanks on Tuesday against the ranks, if all goes according to plan.

In his fifth game of rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre, the first baseman, who came back from a knee operation to repair a partially torn mencik, doubled further on Sunday. He served as DH on Sunday, first after playing seven innings on Saturday, and was batting 7-for-18 with three home runs.

“He’s clearly an impact hitter, an impact bat and just adds a bit more length and a bit more heaviness to our lineup,” Boone said. “It would be nice to have him back. Feel like he’s in a good physical location. He’s been able to rack up a lot of live-bats here last week.”

After returning Miguel Anduzer to Triple-A, the Yankees opened the roster spot for Voyette after Sunday’s game. He went 0-for-9 in three matches.

Gio Urshela may also return to the lineup on Tuesday after being ruled out of the National Series against Astro on Thursday with a knee injury.

Urshella was on the field on Sunday morning with Rugged Odor (knee sprain), practicing agility, playing catches and taking a ground ball to the infield. He was also known to take a swing.

Odor, who went on the injured list on Wednesday, “feels good,” Boone said. His progress was going to be determined on the basis of how he came through Sunday’s pregame work.

Aaron Hicks fell in pain after throwing a ball from his shin in the eighth inning on Sunday, but remained in the game.

“Hopefully it’s not too serious,” Boone said.
