A lot was expected of the Memphis Tigers this year. Thus far, the team has not delivered with an 8-5 start, but they will look to turn things around at home against Cincinnati on Sunday.
The Tigers have been solid on defense, forcing a turnover on 25 percent of possessions in home games and ranking 50th in the nation in points allowed on a per-possession basis.
Cincinnati has been better on a points-allowed-per-possession basis, ranking 25th, but the Bearcats are struggling from the outside, ranking 322nd nationally in 3-point shooting percentage.
Free throws have been crucial for Memphis’ offense as it ranks fourth in free throws attempted per field goal attempt, while Cincinnati is giving up 21.7 percent of points from made free throws, putting it in the bottom 10 percent in the nation.
Jalen Duren leads Memphis with 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with 11.1 ppg. With the Tigers getting an offensive rebound on 36 percent of their missed shots, which rates 11th among Division I teams, Memphis will send a message on Sunday.
